Fellow Patriots,
Below is an issue that merits our attention. It has to do with election of the Texas Speaker of the House.
As most of you know, the Speaker who is elected every two years must be from the Party who is in the majority. Right now, that is the Republican Party.
The current speaker, Joe Straus, has not conducted the business of the House as a principled conservative, and there needs to be a change. He has appointed many progressives to key positions within the Texas legislature. For this reason, very important legislation has been blocked from ever coming to the floor for a vote, i.e., the Voter ID bill. In addition, he has been a supporter of every incumbent in the House regardless of their political ideology, and in some cases assisted in fundraising for them---all to consolidate political power for himself. He recently made numerous contributions to other legislators, presumably to buy their votes for re-election as Speaker. We need to help put a stop to these types of political maneuverings.
There is a move among the conservatives in the Texas House to require that all Republicans caucus together, immediately after the election and prior to their scheduled meeting in December, and unanimously select a Speaker. This would prevent a small minority of liberals within the Party and other progressives from having the upper-hand in the election of the Speaker of the House and would allow for more grassroots influence in the process.
If you would like to provide input to your Texas Representative, please contact them and tell them you would like them to agree to caucus regarding election of the House speaker and unanimously select who that will be.
If you have a Republican Representative, it will be one of the following (contact information is included):
