Public Improvement Districts: Informational Meeting
Garland, Texas – Mayor Ronald Jones invites Garland citizens to an informational meeting about public improvement districts or PIDs. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 4, 2010 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
During this meeting City staff will provide information about PIDs, including what Texas state laws provide and how cities may respond to requests to implement PIDs. Staff will also answer citizens’ questions.
The meeting will be held at Garland City Hall in the Council Chamber, 200 N. Fifth Street in Downtown Garland.

I'm told we need to mount an effort to get the City Council to vote on an ordinance to outlaw PIDs in Garland. That way a new council would have to repeal that Ordinance in order to put a PID in place. That would let everyone know if there was someone wanting to put in a PID. It would also let the people know which council members support PIDs so we can work to get them replaced. Council elections are in May. I'm emailing the Mayor and my councilperson to do this.
